Putting worship skills into practice

The word "liturgy" means "work of the people" and that's what we do when we come together to worship God - we work!

In Sunday school, children age 3 through grade 5 learn basic worship skills. Parents, please assist your child in putting his/her worship skills into practice. Attend worship together!

PRACTICE in the car on the way to worship!

  1. Have a grown-up say, "The Lord is with you."
Have the children respond, "AND ALSO WITH YOU."
  2. Have a grown-up say, "Go in peace. Serve the Lord."
Have the children say, "Thanks be to God."
  3. Say the Lord's Prayer together.
  4. Sing the refrain for "This is the Feast" together.

PREPARE for worship!

Pick up a worship bulletin and a Children's Worship Bag in the narthex.

Look up and mark your green and/or blue hymnals with the 2 or 3 hymns for the service. (Remember, hymns are songs that have "big" numbers at the top of the page.)

PARTICIPATE in worship!

  1. Stand when the congregation stands.
  2. Sit when the congregation sits.
  3. Kneel when the congregation kneels.
  4. Listen when the congregation listens.
  5. Pray when the congregation prays.
  6. Sing when the congregation sings.
  7. Join in the Children's Message at the front of the sanctuary.
  8. Save the contents of your Children's Worship Bag until the sermon. Then, quietly do the activities in the worship bag WHILE you listen to the pastor preach.
  9. Participate in the Sacrament of Holy Communion by either receiving a blessing or receiving Christ's body and blood in the form of wafer and wine.

PROMISE to take something home with you
(more than just the worship bulletin)!

  1. Talk about ways that worship has changed your way of thinking this morning.
  2. Think of someone who was not at worship that you might want to talk to this week.
  3. Tell someone else what God has done for you and your family.

PLAN to return to worship again next week!
