Child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ forever.

In Christian love you have presented this child for Holy Baptism.

Do you promise to fulfill these obligations?

Faithfully bring your child to the worship services of God’s house.
Teach your child the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed and the Ten Commandments.
Place in your child’s hands the Holy Scriptures and provide for your child's instruction in the Christian faith .
Support your child in leading a godly life.

The Sacrament of HOLY BAPTISM

As members of the family of Jesus Christ, the Christian Church, we rejoice each time a person is born and baptized into the Christian faith.

When we are baptized, God says, "Come right in! You're home!"

Baptism is our chance to be in God's family here on earth. In fact, God loves us very much even before we are baptized. In baptism, God tells all the people in the world about that love.

Holy Baptism is a gift that God offers to people of all ages, from newborn babies through adulthood.

Holy Baptism is a gift that is offered once and lasts a person's lifetime. It is a gift that extends forgiveness, salvation, deliverance and the true sense of belonging to God's family.

What is Baptism?

Holy Baptism is not water only, but it is water used together with God's Word and by God's command.

What is this Word?

In Matthew 28, our Lord Jesus Christ says: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."

What benefits does God give in Holy Baptism?

In Baptism God

forgives sin,
delivers from death and the devil, and
gives everlasting salvation to all who believe what God has promised.

What is God's promise?

In Mark 16 our Lord Jesus Christ says: "A person who believes and is baptized will be saved; but a person who does not believe will be condemned."

St. Paul writes in Titus 3: "He (Jesus Christ) saved us . . . in virtue of his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit, which he poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that we might be justified by his grace and become heirs in hope of eternal life."

How can water do such great things?

It is not WATER that does these things, but GOD'S WORD with the water and our trust in this Word. Water by itself is only water. But, water with the Word of God is a life-giving water. By grace, this life-giving water gives the new birth through the Holy Spirit.
