Mission Statement
The Women of Grace is a unit of the Women of the Allegheny Synodical Women’s Organization of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. As participants of the Women of the ELCA, we adhere to the purpose of that organization . . .
“As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.”
To fulfill this purpose, the Women of Grace include programs that will help women grow spiritually, to enhance relationships and give opportunities for service in our congregation and throughout the world.
CIRCLES:
All circles meet for fellowship, Bible Study and prayer monthly from September through May.
Esther Circle - Meets the 1st Tuesday monthly at 9:30 a.m. in the Fireside room of the church. They are responsible for the collection and delivery of blankets for Blanket Sunday in October. The leaders are Diane Kulp and Carolyn Fishburn; Membership is Betty Shirk, 238-6439.
Daughters of Eve - Meets the 4th Tuesday monthly at 7:30 p.m. in members homes. This circle plans a craft project every Christmas season. Contact membership, Jennifer Conklin, 861-8631 for informtion.The leader is Sharon Brown, 234-2244.
Dorcas/Lydia Circle - These are two circles that have combined. They meet on the 3rd Wednesday monthly at 1:00 p.m. generally in the Fireside room of the church, sometimes in members homes. Check the calendar on the home page for schedule. This group is responsible for the making of embroidered baptismal towels, the cancelled stamp program, and sponsoring the "Morning Star Preganancy Center Baby Shower" in May. Leaders are Ruth Krebs and Marge VanTries, 237-7148; Membership is Doris Bailey, 237-3641.
Sewing Circle - This group sews various projects for Grace Lutheran and the church at large. Some items they make include lap robes and Christmas stockings for nursing homes; quilts for area shelters and the dialysis center of State College, and other various projects. Any ability to sew is not necessary as there are many other tasks involved with completing these projects. Come to a meeting anytime on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays monthly at 9:00 a.m. in Room 108 of the church. Contact person is Barbara Spring.
