E-Notes for January 9, 2018
Dear Grace Family: Super Wednesday resumes tomorrow, January 10!
Grace website nearing completion – Our new website is nearly complete and it looks great! Due to some changes we requested as well as a new software release that will give our site additional functionality and features, the launch date has been pushed back. However, we still anticipate ‘going live’ in January…soon! If you are looking for information you can’t find (or that is outdated) on our old site, contact Laurel Sanders at firstname.lastname@example.org and she will provide whatever you need.
Grace Lutheran polo shirts ready for pickup – If you ordered a Grace Lutheran polo shirt, your order is in the church office. Shirts can be picked up during office hours (M-Th, 8-3 and Fridays 8-noon) or on Sunday mornings.
Adult Forum continues on Sunday mornings at 9 – Don Widener will lead discussions with a series on C.S. Lewis’ The Great Divorce. We will have books to share if needed.
· Jan 14 The Great Divorce (part 2 of 4)
Children and Youth Sunday School resumes January 14 – Classes are from 9–10 am.
Workshop offered to inspire your writings for the 2018 devotional booklet – This year we will continue our tradition of parishioners writing devotions that will be printed in our devotional booklet and made available to members. If you would like to contribute and need help formalizing your ideas, come to one of three identical sessions where we will help you to write: January 10 at 11 am and 6 pm on Super Wednesday; or Sunday, January 21 during the Adult Forum class at 9 am. All sessions are in the Fireside Room.
Adult choir, led by Jayne Glocke, begins in January and is looking for singers – Calling all singers! The Grace Adult Choir will begin rehearsing on Wednesday, January 10th! Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 7:30-9:00pm in the sanctuary and 10:00am Sundays in the choir room. Sunday, January 28, will mark the return of the Adult Choir’s weekly participation in the 10:30am service. Jayne Glocke is the new director of the choir. She has been a member of Grace Lutheran Church for 20+ years, and brings almost 40 years of experience directing public school and university level choirs to the position. Jayne has been on the choral faculty of the PSU School of Music for 19 years and has directed the PSU Chamber Singers and Women’s Chorale. Currently, she is the director the PSU Oriana Singers and Campus Choir.
Although singers of all ability levels are welcome, we are especially looking for singers who have had previous choral experience and/or read music. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Jayne at: email@example.com.
Ringers needed for The Bells of Grace – The Bells of Grace is seeking one ringer and two substitute ringers for the spring semester. Bell choir rehearsals are each Sunday at 11:45 AM in the sanctuary, following the end of the 10:30 AM service. The first rehearsal of this semester is Sunday, Jan. 14. If interested, please contact Anna Carol Buffington at firstname.lastname@example.org or (814) 531-4242. Come join us as we ring praises to our Lord.
Men’s group re-forming at Grace – For many years, a group of men from Grace Lutheran Church have had a breakfast prayer/Bible study group on Thursday mornings. This has been a nice way to get to know other men from the congregation. We have met most recently at IHop and are hoping a change in the time might encourage stronger attendance. We plan to meet at IHop for lunch beginning on January 11 at noon and will discuss how often we would like to meet. If you are interested, please join us at IHop or, if you have questions, contact either Pastor Schul (email@example.com) or Ken Kulp (237-3993).
Garden of Readin’ Selection for January 16 – The next selection for Garden of Readin’ (women’s book club) is The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown. This is the selection of Susan Hirth and she will be facilitating the discussions, Tuesday, January 16, at 10:30 am and 6:00 pm in Fireside. There will be no December meeting.
New members to be received on February 11 at 10:30 service – Have you found a faith home at Grace? Is Jesus drawing you into a deeper relationship as part of the Grace family? If so, we encourage you to consider becoming a member. The process for joining is simple: contact Pastor Schul to set up an appointment to share more about your faith journey and to learn about all that Grace has to offer. Contact the church office at 238-2478 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Youth Sunday is on February 11 – If you are able to attend worship at 9:00 or 10:30 on February 11, you will hear and see our youth at work as they lead worship: preaching, reading, singing, teaching, assisting, greeting and more! Our youth are our future. We thank them for using their hearts, hands and voices as leaders and helpers at Grace, especially on this day!
Thank our retiring organists with a gift to the organ maintenance fund –June and Pat have provided stellar service to Grace with a combined 50 years of service as our organists at 9:00 and 10:30 worship. In recognition of their service, we are inviting contributions to the Krumrine Organ Fund in their honor. If you would like to make a donation, please mark “Organ Fund” on your check and make it payable to Grace Lutheran Church. In a few years we anticipate needing new leathers and other significant organ repairs. Your gift will not only honor Pat and June, but will also ensure that the organ fills our worship space joyfully for years to come.
2018 offering envelopes available in the Narthex – When you pick up your offering envelopes, prayerfully ponder your priorities for the coming year, and use your offering envelopes to help direct them. When picking up your 2018 envelopes, please confirm that the envelope number on the top label of the box matches the number in the little window on the front left side of the box. If they do not match, please let the office know immediately and please do not use those envelopes.
Note: Submissions about upcoming church-related events can be sent to email@example.com for consideration in future editions of E-Notes.
